Please tell us about yourself
I am a deeply rooted and purpose driven queen, I love to refer to myself as ‘the portrait of a powerwoman’.
Born and raised in Matatiele, I grew up in a close-knit polygamous family structure with a father, 2 mothers, four brothers and a younger sister. My entrepreneurial spirit and strong work ethic was gleaned from my roots. My late father was a serial entrepreneur who owned various businesses and eventually sold everything to focus on his business in the transport industry. My mother is a retired teacher, however owned a few businesses of her own when I was younger. Also contributing a great deal to shaping my childhood was my maternal grandmother.
I generally speak highly of my roots because they provided me with wings to fly. They provided me with the space to explore new ways and new thoughts of what I wanted to become. My roots are where I discovered that entrepreneurship was a career option for me, and set a lot of the ground on which I stand today, paved by extraordinary experiences that have inspired how I innovate, master and discover myself.
I am a Businesswoman, the Founder and CEO of Tsoabelo Security Solutions, and one of the youngest women who own a security company in South Africa. I am an impact driven leader who is staunch on creating empowering environments and a firm believer that a greater role for women in my particular industry is necessary, not only to rectify a social injustice, but more importantly because there is an economic and business imperative to use the talent of women to solve the problems the world faces.
In a nutshell, I am a deeply rooted, impact driven and intention fuelled queen, and I strive each and every day to align my personality with my purpose.

Please share with us an experience that almost destroyed you, an experience that almost cost you your life,

however you decided to go out there and fetch your life?
After completing my Diploma in Graphic and Information design in 2008 I struggled to find employment in my field of expertise. Afraid to start my own business as I was constantly advised by my late father, and as something I always knew I wanted to do, I opted to work in retail to keep myself busy and to earn an income whilst seeking employment in the design industry. However, after working in retail for about 4 years with no prospect of employment in graphic design, I became depressed and stopped working altogether for a year. I honestly didn’t understand how this was my
life because I am focused, driven and I have a very strong work ethic, but nonetheless I made a promise to myself that when the opportunity arises I would not take it for granted. In the year 2013 I was introduced to a small security company by my friend, the company was looking for a receptionist and my friend recommended me for the position as I was unemployed and just had my daughter that year. For me, this was my big break, I grabbed this baton with both hands and ran with it. Within the first year of employment at the company I was promoted to management. I was the driving force behind the incredible growth in the annual turnover of the business and I positioned it to compete with long standing security industry leaders. Following a dispute with the owners of the business in December 2016, I left the company. I was completely shattered by the turn of events, which almost broke my spirit, but because I am surrounded by a solid support structure in my family, they constantly reminded me of the phenomenal queen I am and the greatness that I was destined for. I distinctly remember a particular quote by Maya Angelou that spoke to me during this time, “You may encounter many defeats, but you must never be defeated. In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it”.
And with these words in mind, in January 2017, I decided to intentionally fetch my life!
Creating empowering environments is something I am extremely passionate about and working in the security industry afforded me the opportunity to engage with people from completely different backgrounds to mine, yet these people impacted and spoke to my journey. I was committed to an uplifting ethos that promoted social economic change and progress amongst previously disadvantaged individuals and I wanted to continue empowering them the best way I knew how. So, I got up and made the decision to start on my own, and to start from the experience I had gained in my previous employment.

How has the experience impacted your life?

This experience brought me closer to myself spiritually. It shaped and influenced how I show up for myself and the dreams, and aspirations I have for my life. When you are connected to yourself and the source that has unlimited power for you, you are able to understand your authentic power and true calling, and when you inevitably stumble and find yourself stuck on your life’s journey, the alignment to your purpose is what will navigate you out of that dark place.
I am grounded, I know my compass and I am unapologetically charting my own path. This to me is the essence of fetching my life and being in authentic alignment with the phenomenal queen I am destined to be.

Do you think that had it not been for this experience you would have become the person you are?

Most likely not. Perhaps I would still be in the comfort zone of building someone else’s business, and afraid to reinvent myself. I can only be grateful for the experience moving me in a different direction, and for the opportunity to fulfil the highest and truest expression of myself in my current journey.

What advise do you have for someone that has been through the same experience?

There is a supreme moment of destiny calling on each and every one of our lives, your job is to know that, feel that and connect to that. Your life is bigger than one experience. You are not defined by
your failures, because failure is there to point you in the right direction. So when you fall down, graciously get up, find your crown, and then start from experience. Learn to be fearless and to have an unbreakable spirit. You will move differently and become unstoppable once you understand the power that lies within you.

What does women empowerment mean to you?

It means sourcing and referring work in the woman-owned economy, because money literally keeps homes going when it’s in the hands of women.

What inspired you to join pageantry?

I wouldn’t ordinarily enter a beauty pageant, however my decision to enter Mrs South Africa was very intentional. For me it wasn’t about whether I would fit into the mould in terms of my physique, but more about exploring a personal growth journey that stretches me out of my comfort zone. This journey has certainly paved new experiences and the opportunity to become more aligned to my purpose.
